FCCB 176 - Name That Tune

Happy Labor Day!  I hope you have a nice holiday planned today.  It's also a Monday which means it's time for another great challenge at Fantabulous Cricut!  This week's challenge is Name That Tune - we want to see your music themed creations.

I love the Rock Princess cartridge.  I think there are so many fun images on that cartridge!  Most of them are pretty intricate and are tough to put together when they're cut small.  I cut this drummer girl at 4 inches and I don't think I'd try to cut her out any smaller.  Some of the pieces are pretty small, like the drum sticks and her lips, and I can't imagine how tough it would be to put the image together if she were cut out much smaller.

I used my Allegra embossing folder for the subtle background and finished the card off with some stickles on the gold trim pieces and some hot pink twine.

Thank You Card

Hello!  Have you been enjoying your weekend?  Now that we're past Valentine's Day are you already thinking about St. Patrick's Day?  It's only a month away!!  This is probably terrible to say, but just the other day I was driving with my sweetie and we passed a McDonald's.  I looked at him and said, "Hey, now that Valentine's Day has passed, it's time for Shamrock Shakes at McDonald's!"  LOL!!  I don't know what it is about those things, but I have loved them since I was a kid.  I rarely go to McDonald's, but I go a handful of times when they have Shamrock Shakes - I just can't resist!  :-)

Okay, on to some crafting....  This week over at Die Cuttin Divas, they're having a color challenge.  The challenge is to use white along with red, pink, and/or purple.  I don't feel like I use a lot of purple, so I decided to go with that color.  I opened up my Paper Studio The Basics and flipped to the purple section looking for some papers that caught my eye.  I came up with a fairly simple thank you card.

Bad to the Bone

Hello!  Are you all having a great week so far?  How many of you have the rest of the week of for Thanksgiving??  Not me - I only get Thanksgiving Day off.  No complaints though - I'll take it!!  :-)

The card I'm sharing this evening is one I made for a good friend of mine at work.  He is very in to skulls - his cube looks like it is decorated for Halloween all year round!  He also likes to listen to music while he is working, so most of the time he has headphones on.  I try to makes my cards fit their recipient whenever possible and his birthday cards are always a challenge for me.  I managed to find this image on the Rock Princess cartridge though, and with a slight modification, I think it worked.  The image has flourishes coming out on the sides.  I cut those off from the image and from the shadow layer in an attempt to make the image a little more masculine.  He loved the card, so I guess it worked!

If the Crown Fits.....

Good evening!  I hope you have all had a great weekend!  My sweetie and I went to Ames, IA to cheer on my Iowa State Cyclones as they played Baylor in their homecoming game.  We had a great time with some friends and were thankful that it wasn't too terribly cold for the game.  And the Cyclones won, so that was the icing on the cake!!

While we were gone, we missed a close friend's daughter's birthday party.  We stopped by a couple days early to drop off her birthday card and gift.  She had a Princess and the Pop Star themed birthday party.  I went to my Rock Princess handbook and started looking at images in an effort to find something that would work for her party.  This is what I selected:

Looks like a princess mixed with a pop star to me with the crown on her head!  LOL!!

I'm going to submit this card into the challenge over at Die Cuttin Divas.  The challenge this week is Glimmer, Shimmer, Gloss.  I added Stickles to the crown and stripes on the girl's top as well as Glossy Accents to her boots and the bow in her hair.

Gift Card Holder

Hello!  I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and that your week is off to a good start!  The weather was beautiful here and my sweetie and I were able to play golf yesterday.  We both played well, which makes it even more fun.  :)

The card I have to share today is a birthday card I made for a friend of mine.  Her husband likes skulls, crossbones, etc and I think some of that has rubbed off on her.  She has a pirate flag up in her cube at work with a skull and crossbones on it and from time to time I see her with accessories along that line.  So I decided to go along with that theme for her birthday card.  I made a standard A2 size card going horizontally, but I put the crease along the left side so it would open like a book.  I wanted to put a gift card inside and I thought it would look better this way.  To hold the gift card in place, I cut a strip of paper that matched my card base at 1.5 x 4.25 inches.  Then I used a Fiskars border punch for the strip of flowers.  I adhered the flower strip to the 1.5 x 4.25 piece of paper, put adhesive along the sides and bottom of that strip and adhered it to the inside of my card to make a pocket for the gift card to sit in.

Die Cuttin Divas Challenge #57

Happy Friday!  Boy did this week fly by - I can't believe the weekend is already here!  I didn't have much time for crafting this week, but I did manage to get downstairs last night and get a card made for this week's challenge over at Die Cuttin Divas.  The challenge this week is Music, in honor of Music in Our Schools Month.

I knew I wanted to use my Rock Princess cartridge along with the Rock On stamp set I have from Pink by Design.  I have also been eying the musical note paper in one of my DCWV stacks and have been wanting to incorporate it into a project for a while now.  So I put on some good music for inspiration, sat down with the stamp set in front of me and started flipping through the RP handbook.  This is what I came up with.  Thanks for coming by to take a look!

Challenge Me Monday #102

Happy St Patrick's Day!!  Hope you're all enjoying the weekend!  We're getting ready to head to the parade, but I wanted to get my post up first.  :)

The project I have to share today is something I created for the challenge this week over at Fantabulous Cricut.  The challenge is In Like a Lion - make a project with a cat, lion, tiger, etc.  I've been wanting to make this for a while now and this was just the motivation I needed to get it done.

I started with a plain white chipboard frame and found some cat-themed paper that I covered the entire frame with using Mod Podge.  I added thin brown ribbon over the seams where that papers met.  Then I added a cute cat image and my cat's name.  I covered the entire thing in Mod Podge to give it a protective coat, then added a double bow to finish it off.  Then all that was left was adding a pic of my baby girl!  My sweetie liked the way the frame turned out and I have promised to make one for our beagle as well - you'll probably be seeing that before too long!  Thanks for coming by and I hope you enjoy the weekend!

Roots n Blues LO

Hello everyone!  I'm still trying to get caught up on layouts from trips that my sweetie and I took last year.  My goal was to get them done before we left for our wedding back in January.  Kinda missed that deadline.  Oh well, better late than never I guess!

This layout is from a quick weekend trip we took to Columbia, MO for the Roots n Blues n BBQ festival last September.  The festival is full of good music and food.  They have 3 stages set up, all close to the MU campus and within walking distance of each other.  Once you're in the festival, you can walk around as you please to any of the stages.  One of our favorite bands, Robert Randolph and the Family Band, was playing there, which is one of the big reasons we went.  A couple of our friends joined us for the festival on Saturday.  We had a blast listening to some good music and enjoying some great food!  We also managed to find a sports bar nearby so that I could watch my Iowa State Cyclones defeat their in-state rivals, the Iowa Hawkeyes, in triple overtime - one of my favorite moments of that weekend!  :)

I found some cute images on the Rock Princess and Paisley cartridges for my layout.  The 'border' along the bottom of the left page is the wrist bands that we were given each day at the festival.  The empty green square is for my journaling.  Thanks for stopping by and taking a peek!

Good evening everyone!  I hope your week is going well.  We're already halfway to Friday!!  Is it bad how much I look forward to the weekend every week??  I enjoy my job, but I sure do enjoy my weekends too!!

This week over at Celebrate the Occasion, the challenge is Anything Goes Birthday.  Well, today is my sister-in-law's birthday so this challenge works great for me.  I think the Rock Princess cartridge has so many fun images on it.  As I was flipping through the handbook looking for an image to use I saw the sample project and thought it was really cute.  I changed the image and the colors and instead of making a square card I made a 5x7, but I definitely scrap-lifted the idea for this card.  Thanks for coming by to check it out!

Fluttering by to say Hi!

Hello everyone!  I hope you had a fantastic weekend!  Our weekend was busy, but good.  It was a 3-day weekend, which always makes it a little better.  My sweetie's father got married on Friday night, so we were pretty busy Thursday, Friday and Saturday with wedding related/family stuff.  The wedding itself was beautiful and went pretty smoothly.  No complaints from the bride and groom, and that's all that really matters!

The project I have to share tonight is a card that I made for a friend who is starting a new job tomorrow.  She is married to one of my co-workers and is coming to work for our company but in a different department.  I know that she is really looking forward to this change and wanted to give her a card just to let her know I'm thinking about her on her first day and wishing her all the best.  Thanks for coming by to take a look!

Good evening!  I hope everyone's week is off to a good start!!  Tomorrow, one of my good friends from college is celebrating her birthday.  I made this card for her, and hope that she has a great birthday and can 'kick up her heels' and enjoy her day doing whatever she chooses!  It's a pretty simple card, so I decided to layer the ribbon a bit to give it a little something extra.  Thanks for checking it out!!

Cupcake and Crossbones!

Long time, little scrapping!  It seems summer has officially arrived here in the Midwest and along with the warmer weather has come a number of reasons to be outside - yard work, golf, grilling out....  I've been enjoying it all, but unfortunately it's kept me from scrapping much lately.  I actually made this card a couple of weeks ago, I just haven't gotten around to sharing it.  This card is for my step-niece, whose birthday is this weekend.  I was a bit hesitant about putting crossbones on a birthday card and actually had a discussion about it with my friend Missy during a long run one weekend.  I decided to go ahead and do it because it seems to fit my step-niece's personality and I figured that if anyone would appreciate crossbones on a birthday card it would be her!!
